The old wooden train or Tren de Soller leaves from its own little station on the Plaza de Espana in the centre of Palma. We had originally planned to do this in February when the countryside is covered in almond blossom but we didn’t make it until last week so we got oranges instead!

A sunny Week in Mallorca
We planned a week in Mallorca for a bit of winter sunshine but it was the first week in June by the time we got there. No problem – guaranteed hot sunny weather when it wasn’t very spring like at home – if only. Two days of heavy rain worthy of the monsoon and a detailed introduction to the excellent Spanish health service via a broken humerus was not in the plan, but that’s what we got.

Fuerteventura Highlights
For our day on Fuerteventura we took the easy way out and went on one of the ships tours. It was called Fuerteventura Highlights. Overpriced as usual but an easy way to see things when you don’t have a particular must see.
Looking Round Lanzarote – a Visit to Timanfaya
Entering Timanfaya National Park is like entering a strange alien world. We got a bus trip that took us up the winding roads of the park stopping at El Diablo restaurant.
La Palma, La Isla Bonita
La Palma is one of the worlds most mountainous islands. It has the highest rainfall of all the Canary islands so they can grow avocados, bananas and tobacco. Most of the population are involved in agriculture but there are plenty of taxis willing to take you round the island.
Cruising the Canaries
The Canaries are in the Atlantic, only a couple of hundred miles from Morocco. There are seven main islands and its surprising how different they are from each other.
Montenegro, Villages and Coast
Montenegro’s capital is Podgorica but the tourists head for the beaches, mountains, medieval villages and five star coastal hotels.
Dubrovnik, Pearl of the Adriatic
George Bernard Shaw called Dubrovnik The Pearl of the Adriatic and its true that this city on the Adriatic is possibly the best walled city in the world.
